Eskwai Clerk is Kwame AI’s new initiative to offer Eskwai as an AI judicial assistant for judges and magistrates in Africa and beyond, starting with the Judicial Service of Ghana. All 445 judges and magistrates will have access to Eskwai for legal research, drafting rulings and judgments, and document review to enhance judicial efficiency and improve access to justice.

May brought sharper research and feedback tools to Eskwai, including smarter Find in Page search, improved Ask Kwame results with easier access to references across desktop and mobile, and a faster way to share suggestions or report issues. The month also featured continued community support through the BELA Moot Competition 2026, where Eskwai provided sponsored Pro access to 77 participants across law firms and student leadership teams.

Vals AI’s October 2025 VLAIR legal research benchmark compared Legal AI, ChatGPT, and human lawyers on 200 U.S. law questions—with human evaluators. Legal AI scored highest on accuracy (77% vs. 74% and 69%), led on authoritativeness through better citations, while lawyers still excelled on nuanced, multi-jurisdiction tasks. This piece walks through those results, the study’s strengths and blind spots, and why similar benchmarks matter beyond the U.S., including for African jurisdictions and tools like Eskwai.

Their staff will have free access to Eskwai for legal research, drafting and document review to boost the efficiency of legal aid lawyers, and expand access to justice for vulnerable people.
