Kwame AI Inc. is a Ghanaian-born, US-headquartered AI startup. Our mission is to empower learners and knowledge workers such as lawyers with their personal AI knowledge assistants to significantly improve their outcomes and productivity.
Our flagship product is Eskwai, a trustworthy AI legal assistant that enables legal professionals to get instant, reliable answers and insights from our comprehensive database of case laws and legislation, or uploaded documents
Eskwai unlocks efficiency and productivity gains legal professionals by enabling them to save hours, reduce costs, and produce higher-quality work, resulting in better client service, increased revenue, and improved profitability. Our initial focus is law firms and legal departments in Africa.
As a company committed to social impact, we dedicate 20% of our time and resources to the following products and initiatives that are impacting science and computing education across Africa: Adesua (AI teaching assistant for science education), SuaCode (AI-powered app for coding education), Brilla AI (AI Contestant for Ghana's National Science and Math Quiz) and AfricAIED (workshop on AI in Education in Africa).
Our origin story is grounded in friendship and a passion for building solutions to problems across Africa. Victor and Jojo met and became friends back in high school in Ghana in 2007, where we mentored the younger class to build science projects to solve real-world problems and for their annual science exhibition. After high school, together with some friends, we started a nonprofit — Nsesa Foundation — to continue training young Africans with tech skills and mentoring them to build solutions to problems around them.
Out of that work, we created the startup Kwame AI in 2022, through which we built AI assistants for coding and science education, impacting thousands of young Africans (over 5K learners across 45 African countries). Our name honors Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president and a pan-Africanist whose vision for an empowered Africa resonates with us.
That year, Jojo met and became friends with Frederick at the University of Cambridgewhile he was a visiting researcher there and Frederick was completing his LLM. Various conversations among the three of us revealed the opportunity to leverage our previously developed AI assistants to make legal work more efficient for lawyers Bonsrah, resulting in the team building Eskwai.
