Today, we are excited to announce the public launch of TrueCite, our proprietary technology that automatically refines Ask Kwame responses in Eskwai to ensure they are grounded in the current state of the law. With this launch, TrueCite is exiting a private beta where selected law firms tested TrueCite for 5 weeks.
The law is constantly evolving, and legal practitioners face a challenge in keeping abreast of changes. Established case principles are regularly refined, distinguished, or sometimes outright overruled by subsequent court decisions. Legislation is also modified by later enactments and constitutional review by the Supreme Court.
At Eskwai, our goal is to provide a Trustworthy Legal AI that legal professionals can truly rely on. At the core of this are our in-line citations, which allow users to view the specific passages from cited cases and legislation that form the basis of AI-generated Ask Kwame responses.
TrueCite is the next evolution in our commitment to making Eskwai even more trustworthy and reliable. TrueCite ensures that Ask Kwame responses generated in Eskwai are grounded in the current position of the law. TrueCite analyzes and incorporates subsequent judicial decisions relevant to any cited cases and enactments relevant to any cited legislation. This analysis happens automatically and is used to generate the final Ask Kwame response. TrueCite builds on two powerful features already available within Eskwai—Smart Citator and Consolidated Legislation—by bringing their accuracy and intelligence directly into AI-generated responses.

How Does It Work?
When Ask Kwame cites a case in generating a response, for example, DARKWAH v. DENTEH AND OTHERS [1972] 2 GLR 305, as in the demo, TrueCite analyzes how DARKWAH v. DENTEH has been treated by subsequent courts using data from our Smart Citator feature. This identifies several later cases, such as IN RE BONNEY (DECD); BONNEY v. BONNEY [1993-94] 1 GLR 610 and NTRAKWA v. G.P.R.T.U. [1999-2000] 2 GLR 278 from the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, respectively, which applied principles established in DARKWAH v. DENTEH. This additional context is incorporated in the generated response.
This analysis is performed for all cited cases to identify how each cited case has been followed, applied, distinguished, disapproved, or overruled, and incorporated into the final Ask Kwame response. This helps ensure that the Ask Kwame response reflects the current position of the law rather than relying solely on the original decision.
For legislation, TrueCite uses the most current version of the law available within Eskwai through our Consolidated Legislation database. This ensures that Ask Kwame responses are based on legislation that incorporates all relevant amendments, reducing the risk of relying on outdated statutory provisions. For example, in the demo, the consolidated version of the Bank of Ghana Act, including the 2016 amendment is referenced to provide an answer which is more current and accurate.
