GOVERNANCE ADVISORY COUNCIL ACT, 2026 (ACT 1171)

AN ACT to establish the Governance Advisory Council as a non-partisan body to facilitate and enhance accountable and responsible governance by promoting collaboration among governance institutions, coordinating and strengthening multi-stakeholder engagement, providing advisory support and strategic oversight, making evidence-based policy recommendations, monitoring governance performance and fostering open participatory democracy and to provide for related matters. Section 1

1. Establishment of the Governance Advisory Council

(1) There is established by this Act, the Governance Advisory Council as a body corporate. (2) For the performance of the functions of the Council, the Council may acquire and hold property, dispose of property and enter into a contract or any other related transaction. (3) Where there is a hindrance to the acquisition of land, the land may be acquired for the Council under the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036) and the cost shall be borne by the Council.

Section 2

2. Objects of the Council

The objects of the Council are to (a) promote good governance and integrity; (b) enhance citizen participation in decision-making; (c) enhance public trust in governance institutions; and (d) improve governance performance and service delivery.
