GHANA STANDARDS (CERTIFICATION MARK) RULES, 1970 (L.I. 662.)

No person shall exhibit for sale, sell, distribute, prepare for export, export or otherwise dispose of, goods manufactured by an industrial process in Ghana, unless— (a) he has a valid licence to use the standard mark, to be called the Ghana Standards Certification Mark, relating to such goods; (b) the goods bear a facsimile of that standard mark; (c) the goods bear a label indicating that the goods are “Made in Ghana.”; and (d) the goods bear code numbers indicating the batches of production to which they belong.

(1) Every person desirous to have the licence referred to in rule 1 shall apply for such licence to the National Standards Board (hereinafter referred to as “the Board”) and the licence shall be valid for one year, unless the licence is renewed or is suspended or revoked by the Board. (2) Every application for a licence shall specify— (a) the name and business address of the applicant; (b) the description of the goods for which the licence is required; and (c) the address of the factory or place where the goods are manufactured or stored, if such address is different from the business address. (3) No person shall be granted the licence for such goods unless (a) the goods conform to the standard prescribed for such goods in a separate instrument made under paragraph 5 of the Standard Decree, 1967 (N.L.C.D. 199), and published in the Gazette; and (b) he pays the annual licence fee of ten new cedis.
