GHANA DEPOSIT PROTECTION (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2026 (ACT 1167)

AN ACT to amend the Ghana Deposit Protection Act, 2016 (Act 931) to enable the Ghana Deposit Protection Corporation to better achieve the object of protecting a depositor from loss as a result of the occurrence of an insured event in respect of a member of the Scheme; to support the development of a safe, sound, efficient and stable market-based financial system; to ensure that the Ghana Deposit Protection Scheme conforms to international best practice and to provide for related matters. Section 1

1. Section 2 of Act 931 amended

The Ghana Deposit Protection Act, 2016 (Act 931), referred to in this Act as the “principal enactment”, is amended by the substitution for section 2, of “Establishment of the Scheme 2. There is established by this Act, a Deposit Protection Scheme referred to in this Act as the “Scheme”.”.

2. Section 3 of Act 931 amended

The principal enactment is amended by the substitution for section 3, of “Objects of the Scheme 3. The objects of the Scheme are to (a) protect a depositor from loss incurred by the depositor as a result of the occurrence of an insured event; and (b) support the development of a safe, sound, efficient and stable market-based financial system in Ghana through, (i) a prompt pay-out to depositors on the occurrence of an insured event; and (ii) funding of other methods of resolving failed members of the Scheme as determined by the Bank of Ghana.”.
